Achtung Achtung, it's the 1989 Red Roadrunner from Dunoon's Nut Capital City Limits with Russell and Ulf at the wobbly and worn steering wheel, taking part in the iconic Shitbox Rally, Summer 2023!! This year, 250 teams are attempting to drive their crap cars over 3500 km from Rockhampton, Queensland to Hobart, Tasmania on rough outback tracks, good to have a bona fide motor magician on board I say, even if he can't fix the air-con cause there ain't one - it's going to be hot, hot, hot!
Shitbox Rally is the largest community-led fundraiser for the Cancer Council in Australia and is now in its 13th year. All teams have to raise a minimum of $5,000 to participate, yet most teams manage to rustle up even more, let's see what we can achieve!
We hope we can channel some of your hard-earned cash towards cancer research by thundering through the hot and rough Outback in our mean red machine - if Russell can really resurrect it from the dead until then... Any donation you can give is greatly appreciated, yet it's taking part that counts, not with how much or how - spread the word if money sits tight at the moment and become part of our Nut Capital team that way. Feel free to drop by for a yarn or follow our progress via this page and the blog post below - or check it out in the Northern Rivers Times, our latest local legend & double barrel sponsor!
See you somewhere out there and remember to ask your friends, colleagues and neighbours every now and then how they're going - nobody knows who is carrying what load and it's been some tough years for all of us for sure, imagine having cancer on top of all that shit!
Shitbox Rally is the adventure of a lifetime challenging participants and their cars, worth no more than $1,500, on a 7 day drive across Australia to raise money for cancer research.
The rally is not a race – it’s a fun, colourful, unpredictable adventure with participants travelling at their own pace in smaller groups. Vehicles often break down but “we never leave anyone behind” and each night is spent camping beneath the stars and celebrating the day’s achievements. It all adds up to an incredible opportunity to see Australia’s vast and beautiful countryside and make lifelong friends, many brought together after experiencing cancer themselves or seeing cancer impact family and friends.
Since it’s inception the rally has been the largest fundraiser for the Cancer Council nationally.
Shitbox Rally is a dedicated fundraising event for cancer research with funds going to Cancer Council.
Cancer Council is one of the largest non-government funders of cancer research in Australia. We conduct and fund research studies across all cancers and all stages of the cancer journey.
Thanks to the community funds raised such as Shitbox Rally we can fund world-class research that reduces the impact of cancer for everyone.
$41 million over the past 13 years has been raised by Box Rallies to date, supporting ground-breaking projects such as:
These projects wouldn’t be possible without your support.
