We are really pleased to announce that, after much soul searching Rob and I have decided to take part in Shitbox Rally Summer 2023! Shitbox Rally is an extremely worthy cause, being the largest community led fundraiser for the Cancer Council in Australia and having raised over $35 million since it's inception in 2009! Through the generous support of our family and friends, the 2021 event saw us contribute $12,000 towards a rally total of nearly $3million. In March 2023, 250 teams will drive cars worth less than $1500 from Rockhampton to Hobart via some of Australia's toughest roads (and, hopefully, at some point, a boat). To participate as a team we need to achieve a minimum fundraising target of $5000 but are going for $8000 to achieve a combined 2021/23 total raised of $20,000. All funds raised go to the Cancer Council and we are extremely proud to be doing our part to support such a worthy charity.
The inspiration for our participation and team name, "Gritch's Rally Rats", is my late cousin David Gritching (loud Hawaiian shirt in the attached photo with Rob and I). Sadly, David lost his long battle with cancer in 2017 at the age of 53. In the last few years, cancer has also taken the lives of my mother, my uncle, a close friend and Rob's aunt. So, with that background we are very motivated to maximise our fundraising for this very worthy cause. As well as getting the car ready and to the starting line in Rockhampton, which will be a feat in itself, we’re looking for your generous support to help us get to this lofty $20,000 target.

Shitbox Rally is the adventure of a lifetime challenging participants and their cars, worth no more than $1,500, on a 7 day drive across Australia to raise money for cancer research.
The rally is not a race – it’s a fun, colourful, unpredictable adventure with participants travelling at their own pace in smaller groups. Vehicles often break down but “we never leave anyone behind” and each night is spent camping beneath the stars and celebrating the day’s achievements. It all adds up to an incredible opportunity to see Australia’s vast and beautiful countryside and make lifelong friends, many brought together after experiencing cancer themselves or seeing cancer impact family and friends.
